INSULATED CONCRETE FORMING (ICF)

Sturdier, longer-lasting structures that cost less to build, are fire and weather-proof, and save on energy costs to the tune of 70%.

building has evolved

COBUS HOMES has been a leader in ICF construction for close to twenty years, with installations of everything from ICF pools to multiple level structures.

Insulated Concrete Forms, or ICF’s as they’re known in the industry, are the new gold standard when it comes to framing and building homes and other structures.  When compared with more traditional methods of construction, the comparison quickly becomes one-sided, which explains why more and more builders, and their clients, are choosing ICF construction.

Stronger, greater energy efficiency, environmentally friendly, fire and weather-proof.  What’s not to like?

These ICF’s, which are polystyrene foam blocks with teeth on top and slits on the bottom, are fitted together in parallel lines, much the same way as Legos might be, with concrete poured into the gap created by the blocks.  This results in an air-tight wall system with the polystyrene insulation sealing out the elements and combining with the thermal properties of the solid concrete core to produce optimum energy efficiency.  By using this method, costs associated with heating and cooling can be reduced in the area of 70%.

Yes, you read that right.  70%.

Today, the cost of using ICF’s in building homes and other structures is comparable with traditional methods and materials.  But as the benefits become better known, and as more builders across North America adopt their use, homebuilding with ICF’s will become less expensive than traditional builds, a saving that goes directly to the bottom line.
